Market CEO to dig deep (literally) for Camp Quality, starting this Friday
Release Date: October 26, 2011
The Chief Executive Officer for the Adelaide Produce Market will be volunteering for three days of excruciating back-breaking hard labour, all in the name of a good cause.
With the Adelaide Produce Market CEO auctioning his services free-of-charge for three days at last year’s Cherry Ball, growers, merchants and other players from the fresh produce industry came together in a successful joint-bid to raise funds for Camp Quality.
“When I offered to work for a few days for charity, I had no idea I’d end up digging trenches on a farm in Virginia,” Adelaide Produce Market CEO Angelo Demasi said.
“I was overwhelmed with the amount of money it was able to raise. I am actually looking forward to experiencing first-hand what our farmers and merchants go through to get fresh fruit and vegetables to consumers every day of the year,” Mr Demasi said.
Working 8am till 5pm at Thorndon Park Produce in Waterloo Corner this Friday, Angelo Demasi will be undertaking the first of his three jobs. Work at Thordon Park Produce will include digging trenches, cleaning pits, fixing fences and washing farming equipment. The other two days will involve picking cherries in the Adelaide Hills and stacking boxes at the market in the early hours of the morning.
Attended by the South Australian horticulture industry and their guests, the annual Cherry Ball is the largest fundraiser for Camp Quality in South Australia, with the centrepiece of the event being the auction of the first box of cherries picked in South Australia.
This year’s Cherry Ball will be held on Saturday 26 November 2011 at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
